Briton runners impressive against D-I rivals

NORTHVILLE, Mich. – Kiehl Smith, Trey Cucuro and Andrew Wittland finished in the top 20 as the Albion College men's cross country team held its own against Division I runners from Bucknell University, the University of Detroit Mercy, Eastern Michigan University and Oakland University.

Smith, coming off a first place performance in an 8K race in Indianapolis last Saturday, was fourth. He completed the four-mile course in 20:34.2. He trailed two runners from Detroit Mercy and one unattached athlete.

Cucuro and Wittland were separated by seven seconds at the finish. Cucuro was 14th (21:10) and Wittland was 16th (21:17.3).

Aaron Weimer (21:27.6), Kody Dehaan (21:41.3), Liam Walits (21:49.5) and Lucas Lusk (22:05) completed Albion's top seven.

The Briton runners will take a break from competition until Sept. 29 when they travel to Chicago for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.
