LANSING, Mich. – Albion College junior Kurt Swaton led the Britons to a fifth place finish at the Lansing Invitational after running a new 8k season best time of 26:46 to finish 17th in the 216 person field.

"It went well", said Swaton. "After being injured all last track season, running sub 27 was what I wanted."

Albion College Coach Derick Lawrence added of Swaton's race, "He ran a smart race. He positioned himself well at the mile and progressively worked his way up in the race."

First-year runners Thomas Michno (27:02) and D'Anthony Goodwin (27:06) set personal records to place 26th and 28th respectively.

Sophomore Chase Baumgardner (27:20) and first-year runner Kody Dehaan (27:24) rounded out the Britons top five finishing the 8k race in 36th and 41st place, respectively.

Senior Alex Dermody (27:29) and first-year runner Liam Walits (27:57) closed off the Briton scoring total.

"It was great to see many of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association teams a few weeks before the conference meet," said Lawrence.

Albion will be sending its top runners to Elsah, Ill., next weekend for the Cowbell Classic Pre-National Meet at the Principia College North Farm Course.
