The first of five Albion College NCAA Division III track champions since 1980, Garner is one of two Britons selected all-MIAA for four seasons in men's track. Garner is pictured at the 1983 NCAA Division III championship at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, after he cleared a Division III record seven feet, 2 1/4 inch height. The record still stands, better than a decade later. In 1981, Garner finished second in the high jump. One year later, he tied for third. Along with the national title and Division III high jump record in 1983, Garner was sixth in the triple jump.
