Jephte Jean-Claude and Kiehl Smith represented Albion College on the list of all-Great Lakes Region performers for the outdoor track & field season. The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association made the announcement Monday.
The top five individuals in each event earned the award.
Jean-Claude, a junior who prepped at Traverse City Central High School, is headed to La Crosse, Wis., for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the triple jump after sailing 14.64 meters (the equivalent of 48' ½") at an April 13 meet at Olivet College. He went on to achieved all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association distinction, by willing the league championship in the event with a leap measuring 46' 5 ¼".
Smith, a sophomore from Jonesville, Mich., achieved the third-best time in the region in the 800 meters. He completed his race in 1:54.50 during the Don Kleinow Invitational in April.
