Jumpers lead Albion in MIAA track/field meet

ADRIAN, Mich. – Jephte Jean-Claude won the triple jump and Richard Annorat claimed three medals to help Albion College secure a third place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championship.

Albion scored 75 ½ points Friday to finish the meet with 116 ½. Calvin College won the championship with 214 points, followed by Trine University at 123 ½.

Jean-Claude sailed 46' 5 ¼" to win the triple jump over Annorat by 4 ½". Annorat also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.97 seconds) and he tied for third in the high jump at 6' 2 ¾".

Kiehl Smith, who prepped at Jonesville High School, gained the silver medal in the 1,500 meters (4:06.80). He also qualified for the final in the 800, finishing seventh.

Adam Ditri and Andrew Wittland combined for nine points in the 5,000 meters. Ditri was fourth, completing his race in 15:36.50.

Albion athletes will now turn their attention to meets in Illinois where the goal will be to achieving qualifying standards for the NCAA Division III Championship.
