ADRIAN, Mich. – Andrew Strzelecki has a simple motion when throwing the javelin, but it was effective on Thursday.
The senior from Waterford, Mich., achieved the longest throw by an Albion College male this season and a personal record of 48.90 meters, the equivalent of 160' 5", to win his first career Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association event title.
Rayshawn Robinson, the defending champion in the event, also scored for the Britons. He finished fourth at 46.88 meters (153' 9").
Albion also reaped 15 points in the shot put. Kejuan Frazier, a first-year student who won the MIAA indoor title in the shot put in February, added the outdoor title with a personal record of 15.50 meters (50' 10 ¼"). Markell McCoy finished fourth at 13.33 meters (43' 8 ¾").
Thanks to earning 15 points in two events, Albion sits in second place after the first day of competition in the league championship meet. Calvin College racked up 42 points on the first day with Albion next with 41.
Richard Annorat was Albion's other medalist on Thursday, finishing third in the long jump at 6.42 meters (21' ¾").
Annorat has an opportunity to gain a medal on the track on Friday after qualifying third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.30 seconds).
Andrew Wittland contributed four points toward Albion's total with a fifth-place finish in the 10,000 meters (33:45.06).
In another preliminary event, Kiehl Smith qualified second for the final in the 800 (1:57.89).
