Jean-Claude Strikes MIAA Gold In Triple Jump

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jephte Jean-Claude achieved a personal record to win the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title in the triple jump and he finished third in the 110-meter hurdles to lead Albion College to a fourth place finish in the conference's outdoor track & field championship.

A sophomore from Traverse City, Jean-Claude sailed 45' 10" in the triple jump and he raced to a time of 15.20 seconds in the hurdles. He also joined Michael Harvey, Markeese Boyd and Sean Thomas for third place in the 4x100 relay in a season-best time of 42.72 seconds.

The triple jump was Albion's most productive event as Richard Annorat finished second at 43' 8 ½" and Rayshawn Robinson was fifth at 42' 2 ¼".

"Rayshawn and Jephte competed wonderfully," Head Coach Lance Coleman said. "They both achieved all-MIAA status. Rayshawn earned first place with a career-best throw in the javelin on Thursday, and he also performed at a career best level in the triple jum. Jephte's two days including winning the triple jump in a career best distance, winning by more than two feet. He followed this up with a third place finish in the 110 hurdles."

Albion also had two on the award stand for the high jump and the 5,000 meters. In the high jump, Zach Osbourne and Annorat cleared the bar at 6' 1 ½" with Osbourne scoring fourth place and Annorat in sixth. First-year runners James Weekley and Andrew Bill finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the distance race.

In other events, Harvey raced to fifth place in the 100, Andrew Strzelecki gained seventh place in the hammer throw, Adam Ditri finished eighth in the 1,500, and Kiehl Smith finished eighth in the 800.

Strzelecki started the meet by achieving a career-best throw to finish third in the javelin competition on Thursday.

Calvin College rolled up 266 points to win the conference championship. Trine University was second with 161 points, Hope College was third with 125 and Albion totaled 87. Adrian College (65), Olivet College (57) and Alma College (14) completed the team standings.
