Jean-Claude Defends MIAA Indoor Triple Jump Title

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jephte Jean-Claude achieved a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association record in the triple jump in successful defending his league championship in the event.

A sophomore who prepped at Traverse City Central High School, Jean-Claude sailed 13.55 meters, or the equivalent of 44' 5 ½". He also finished second in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.29 seconds.

Jean-Claude helped Albion finish fifth in the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Calvin College edged Trine University, 195-163 ½, in the race for first place. Adrian College (78 points) was third, followed by Hope College (67).

Albion advanced Markeese Boyd and Michael Harvey to the final in the 60 meter dash, James Weekley (3,000 meters) and Andrew Biill (5,000 meters) finished fifth in their respective distance events and Robert Petersen was sixth in the 200 meters.

Scoring in the field events were Andrew Strzelecki (fifth in the weight throw, 46' 5") and Jacob Maurer (tied for sixth in the pole vault, clearing 12' 5 ½").

Head Coach Lance Coleman added the Britons achieved 18 personal best performances and eight were among the school all-time top 10 in their respective events.
