Tennis teams begin fall competition this weekend

The Albion College tennis teams will start its fall semester competition when it travels to Hope College for an invitational tournament this weekend.

Kacie Zuck, Albion’s director of tennis, says the fall is important as the team incorporates first-year players Matthew Czarnecki, Brett Gurzell, Reece Morey, Lilianna Robinson and Breh Ruger into the program.

“Four players graduated from the men’s team in May, but we were lucky to have a lot of depth behind them,” Zuck said. “We are looking forward to seeing how everyone performs in new positions in the lineup.

“The bulk of the women’s lineup is the same (although team captain Marceline Redick is studying abroad during the fall semester),” Zuck added. “We are interested to see how the new players fit into the lineup and keep moving forward.”

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
