McGarry runs singles win streak to four

ALBION, Mich. – Josh McGarry continued his winning ways in singles on Wednesday.

The Albion College senior from Macomb, Mich., defeated Blake Trusty 6-1, 7-5 for his fourth win in a row and his sixth in the last seven matches. He is 9-5 in singles this season.

McGarry and Robert Joerg scored the singles points for the Britons, but they were unable to carry the team to a victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Trine University. Trine walked off the courts outside of the Dow Recreation and Wellness Center with a 6-3 victory over the Britons.

Playing a 10-point game to decide the No. 3 match since the team result had been decided, Joerg defeated Jaxon Davis 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.

McGarry and Nick Kinachtchouk produced Albion's point in doubles when they defeated Blake Trusty and Evan Trusty, 8-4.

Albion (5-6 overall and 0-2 against MIAA rivals) will visit the Minges Creek Athletic Center or Harper Creek High School for a Friday MIAA match against Olivet College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
