McGarry nets 'amazing' singles win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coach Kacie Zuck credited Josh McGarry with an "amazing" win at No. 1 singles, but that was the only point Albion College could manage in an 8-1 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Calvin College on Friday.

McGarry defeated Jose Larrea 6-4, 6-4.

Calvin won the other five singles matches in straight sets, though Israel Trevino put up a fight at No. 4 singles. Konner Shapiro defeated Trevino 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 4 match.

Albion, 5-5 overall, returns home for a 4 o'clock Wednesday match against MIAA rival Trine University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
