McGarry, Kinachtchouk notch singles wins

ALBION, Mich. – Josh McGarry and Nick Kinachtchouk produced points in singles for Albion College, but losses in two closely contested matches kept the men's tennis team from winning its first dual match of the year.

Holy Cross College pulled out victories at second and sixth singles to edge Albion, 6-3, inside the Ungrodt Tennis Center.

McGarry rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over John Page at the top of the singles lineup and Kinachtchouk finished the No. 4 match 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) by winning the second set tiebreaker over Mac Flannery.

Robert Joerg, playing No. 2 singles, lost two close sets to Dylan Euzarraga 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. Patrick Barclay, playing No. 6 singles, lost a tiebreaker to decide the match with Dave Napierkowski after splitting the first two sets 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).

Barclay and Toma Shngoo provided Albion with a point in doubles, winning a tiebreaker to decide the third flight.

Next up for Albion is a Feb. 3 home match against Alma College.
