GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Robert Joerg pulled out a tiebreaker to win the No. 5 singles match for the Albion College point in an 8-1 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Calvin College.
Joerg, a first-year student-athlete from Fremont, Ohio, won his conference debut and improved to 4-7 in singles this season. After splitting the first two sets (each ending in 6-4 scores), Joerg took the tiebreaker, 10-5.
The other five singles matches were decided in straight sets.
Albion's best chance for a point in doubles was at No. 1 where Ross Kynast and Zach McKenzie were defeated, 8-6.
Albion will continue play against MIAA rivals next Saturday with a home match against Adrian College.
