Three Britons Advance To Semifinals

HOLLAND, Mich. – Eric Guindi, Jonathan Gurnee and David Richter advanced to the semifinals in their respective singles flights in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Tennis Flighted Tournament.

Guindi, Albion's No. 1 singles player, pulled out a second set tie-breaker to turn back Kalamazoo's David DeSimone 6-1, 7-6 97-4). He will meet Calvin's John Strikwerda in the semifinal of the 'A' singles bracket.

Gurnee defeated Alma's Logan Beard 6-2, 6-2 and Kalamazoo's Spencer Navarre 6-0, 6-3 Friday and he will meet Hope's Parker Bussies in the other semifinal of the 'A' singles bracket.

Richter, Albion's No. 2 singles player, won two matches Friday. He needed to win a second set tie-breaker to get past Kalamazoo's Jeremy DePree 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) and a super breaker to subdue Trine's Joey Clark 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. Richter will square off against Alma's Bryan Schutte in the semifinal of the 'B' singles bracket.

Ross Kynast lost in the opening round of the 'B' singles bracket, but he bounced back with a victory in the consolation quarterfinal. Steve Nawrocki and Will Pearl won their opening round matches but lost their quarterfinal contests in the 'C' singles bracket.

In doubles, Kynast and Pearl earned an 8-4 victory over Alma's team in the opening round of the 'A' flight, but they lost in the quarterfinal round. Guindi and Gurnee were 8-4 winners over Kalamazoo in the quarterfinal round.

Nawrocki and Richter won their opening round and quarterfinal contests in the 'B' flight.
