Swimmers back from holiday break

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Albion College men's swimming & diving team knows where it stands after the holiday break after a dual meet against Wabash College on Saturday.

Wabash won the meet, 172-90.

Gerardo Huidobro and Nate Cobb were the first two to finish the 200-yard butterfly. Huidobro set a winning time of 2:02.65, while Cobb touched the wall in 2:03.18.

Wabash outscored Albion, 10-9, in the 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke. In the freestyle, Evan Wonner finished second (49.28), Tommy Trueax was third (49.34) and Len Ciemniecki was fourth (49.54). Connor Robertson finished second (2:00.10), Erik Halboth was third (2:06.00) and Kurt Jolly was fourth (2:10.34) in the backstroke.

Earning second place finishes in other events for Albion were Mac Robertson (200 freestyle, 1:48.43; 500 freestyle, 4:54.89), Trueax (50 freestyle, 22.15), and Cole Nelson (100 fly, 54.08).

"This meet was a great way to kick off the championship season because it shows us what we need to do going into the final weeks of preparation for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship in February," Albion Head Coach Nick Stone said. "We swam well and showed some resilience going into events.

Albion returns to MIAA action next Saturday with a dual meet at Calvin University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
