Burris gains third career All-America award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jake Burris closed his collegiate diving career Saturday night, gaining his second All-America finish in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Albion College senior from Chelsea, Mich., finished seventh in the 3-meter competition. He was awarded 516.75 points.

Four of his six dives in the finals scored at least 54.60 points. His top dives were the inward 2 ½ which netted 63.45 points and the reverse 1 ½ somersault with a 2 ½ twist which gained 63.80 points.

Burris, who started with a fifth place finish in the 1-meter competition on Thursday, scored 26 of the 28 points scored by Albion in the NCAA Championships.

Burris' career includes three All-America awards (he finished sixth on the 1-meter board in Greensboro in his first year) and five honorable mention All-America awards.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
