Albion takes down nationally ranked rival in the pool

ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College men's swimming and diving team needed a boost of confidence with the start of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship just a little more than a month away.

The Britons got it with a 179 ½ - 120 ½ victory over 25th-ranked Wabash College.

Jake Huttenlocher won the breaststroke events, the 400-yard individual medley and he was part of the winning 200 medley relay to start the meet.

Nate Kozycki, also a member of the medley relay, took first place in the butterfly events.

Mac Robertson won the distance freestyle events, Jake Burris took first place in both diving events, and Ian Moran was a winner in the 100 backstroke and the medley relay.

Albion and Wabash split the first place points in the 200 freestyle when first-year swimmer Tommy Trueax came from behind to tie Justin Wallar at the wall (1:45.26).

Albion will compete on the road for the remainder of the season. Its next meet is a Jan. 26 MIAA dual at Hope College.
