Burris, Swingewood represent Albion as MIAA Athletes of the Week

First-year swimmer Samantha Swingewood and senior diver Jake Burris represent Albion College among the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for Nov. 5.

Swingewood, from Carmel, Ind., enjoyed a successful run in the Calvin College quadrangle meet last weekend with first-place performances in the 200-yard individual medley, the 400 IM and the 200 butterfly.

Her closest finish came in the 200 butterfly, where her time of 2:11.66 was just two hundredths of a second ahead of the runner up. There was also a close finish in the 400 IM, where Swingewood's time of 4:43.01 was 18 hundredths of a second ahead of the runner up. She completed the 200 IM in 2:13.15, more than 1 ½ seconds ahead of the runner up.

Burris, from Chelsea, Mich., is being honored as the men's diver of the week for the second time in as many weeks. He achieved winning scores of 488.55 in the 1-meter competition and 505.35 on the 3-meter board.

Albion's swimmers and divers will complete the first half of the season this weekend when they travel to Wabash College for an invitational meet that runs Friday through Sunday.
