Calvin puts the Albion men's soccer season on ice

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin University countered the Albion College attack perfectly for its first two goals as the Knights, ranked second in Division III by the United Soccer Coaches, advanced to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Tournament Final with a 5-1 result over the Britons on a snowy pitch at Grand Rapids Christian High School.

Hunted Olson scored twice and he assisted on another to lead Calvin. Quinn Loosle and Sam Twigg each contributed a goal and an assist.

Joel Zaretti provided some anxious moments for Calvin when he scored Albion's goal. It leveled the score, 1-1, in the 19th minute.

Searching for the go ahead score, Albion had the ball in the box. However, the Britons were unable to get a shot off and Calvin worked the ball to the other end quickly as Olson assisted on the goal by Chris Schau that stood up as the game winner.

Carter Peek was also credited with a shot on goal for Albion.

Albion finished the season at 7-10-2 overall.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
