Brilliant defense boosts Albion to MIAA men's soccer win

ANGOLA, Ind. – With the way its back line played Tuesday, Albion College needed just one shot to take down Trine University in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer action.

Daniel Akhimien, John HoesliMoses Jatta, Spencer Moeggenberg, Davion Page, Carter Peek, Noah Scott and Joel Zaretti kept Trine without a shot on goal and Jason Warras scored a timely goal in the 70th minute to lift the Britons to the 1-0 victory.

Despite not making any saves, Albion goalkeeper Maximilian Loria excelled at controlling his box and directing the play around him.

Albion was credited with just three shots on goal – and six overall – in the match. Jatta and Zaretti also placed shots on goal.

Albion, winners of five in a row to improve to 6-4-1 overall, returns home for a 12 p.m. Saturday match against Alma College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
