ALBION, Mich. – First-year forward Alex Sayeg scored in the 64th minute and junior goalkeeper Maximilian Loria was decisive in the back as the Albion College men's soccer team picked up a much needed result at Alumni Field Sunday afternoon.

Albion defeated Hiram College, 1-0, for its first victory of the season.

Albion controlled possession 59 percent of the time and generated 18 shots, however, it did not break through until midway through the second half.

Midfielder Moses Jatta, forward Jason Warras and Sayeg all peppered two shots on goal.

Loria finished with five saves, however, he covered the ball on several occasions to prevent the Hiram forwards from getting a shot.

Albion, now 1-3-1 on the year, will be on the road next weekend for matches against Wheaton College and Marian University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
