ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College men's soccer team was 6 ½ minutes away from picking up its first victory of the season on Saturday.
The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, picked to finish third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, was rewarded for pushing the ball forward in the final 20 minutes of regulation and in overtime as it walked off Alumni Field with a 2-1 victory over the Britons.
Eric Kirby scored a penalty kick goal in the 84th minute and he assisted on Ryan Tarr's winner in the 96th minute.
Albion controlled possession in the first half. The Britons had the ball 61 percent of the time, however, it generated only one shot on goal. Noah Scott, a first-year defender from Rochester Hills, Mich., scored his first goal at the collegiate level on a blast from the top of the box.
Rose-Hulman was credited with 12 shots in the second half and four in overtime.
Albion will return to Alumni Field Sunday afternoon at 2:30 for a non-league contest against Hiram College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
