Sayeg goal is enough for men's soccer to gain draw

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alex Sayeg scored his first goal at the collegiate level and that helped Albion College forge a 1-1 draw with Johnson & Wales (Colo.) University on Saturday.

A first-year student who prepped at Walled Lake Central, Sayeg scored in the seventh minute. Jason Warras and Moses Jatta assisted on the goal.

Johnson & Wales produced the equalizer 23 ½ minutes later when Zidani Batiste buried a penalty kick.

Albion placed five more shots on goal, but Wildcat goalkeeper Zac Collins was up to the challenge. Micah Cross was credited with two shots on goal for Albion.

Albion goalkeeper Maximilian Loria stopped seven of the eight shots he faced.

Albion will play its next three non-league matches at home. The action begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the North Park University squad picked to win the championship in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
