ALBION, Mich. – Despite plenty of scoring chances, Albion College played to a 1-1 draw with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College on a chilly Wednesday evening at the Davis Athletic Complex.
Alex Spratte gave Albion the lead in the 49th minute. The only mistake Kalamazoo goalkeeper Luke Kastran made all night was not smothering the ball at the feet of Erik Vanfossen. Vanfossen sent a short pass in the box to Spratte who finished the play for his fifth goal of the season.
Kastran was outstanding the rest of the way. His sprawling stop on a Spratte's shot at close range ignited a Kalamazoo counter attack in the 73rd minute. Collin Sweet took a long outlet pass from Aidan Hurley and caught Albion goalkeeper Maximilian Loria too far off his line. Sweet delivered a shot on the ground to the far post for the equalizer.
Kastran was up to the challenge in the first overtime period, stopping shots by Erik Vanfossen and Kyle Bourlier just seconds apart.
Overall, Albion had a 24-9 advantage in shots, including 10-5 in shots on goal.
Albion, 5-5-4 overall and 0-3-2 against MIAA rivals, travels to Olivet College for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday.
