Albion picks up point on MIAA men's soccer ledger

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College earned his first point on the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association ledger Saturday night, playing Hope College to a 2-2 draw at the Davis Athletic Complex.

To get the draw, Albion had to slow down a Hope side that came in as one of the highest scoring teams in Division III with 40 goals on the season.

Erik Vanfossen got his head on Will Colborn's pass 2 ½ minutes into the match. Vanfossen's first goal of the season gave the Britons the early lead.

Hope scored the equalizer four minutes later on Sam Allbritten's goal.

Christian Dault put Hope in front with a goal in the 76th minute.

Albion got the equalizer with less than fove minutes left in regulation. Jason Warras finished the play for his third goal of the season.

The Britons were one touch away from getting the victory. Hope goalkeeper Blair McCormick came off his line to slow down an Albion forward trying to get a shot off with the clock winding down in the second overtime period.

Hope owned an 18-7 edge in shots, including 10-4 in shots on goal.

Albion (5-5-3 overall and 0-3-1 against MIAA rivals) will play at home again Wednesday night. Kalamazoo College will provide the opposition for the 7 p.m. match.
