Second half surge powers Albion to men's lacrosse victory

KENTWOOD, Mich. – Alec Palmer scored five goals, matching his season high, and Jacob Swift added four goals and two assists as Albion College claimed a 15-8 victory over Calvin College on the opening day of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's lacrosse action.

Palmer and Collin Bowers scored twice and Gerald Haadsma added a man-advantage goal as Albion scored five times in the second quarter to overcome a 3-1 deficit at the end of the first quarter.

Albion poured it on in the second half, outscoring Calvin 9-3. The Britons scored six in a row to build a 14-7 lead and it went on to secure the victory.

Goalkeepers Trevor McManus and Josh Luketic combined to make 10 saves.

Albion will play both of its MIAA games at home next week, starting with a 7 p.m. Tuesday game against Trine University.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
