Men's Lacrosse season ends with overtime loss

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Patrick Storie scored 40 seconds into overtime to lift New England College to a 10-9 victory over Albion College in a NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship first round contest.

Brandon Lebioda scored his second goal of the day and assisted on Chase Palmer's strike in the third quarter as Albion led, 9-5, with 15 minutes to play.

New England rallied with three goals in the first 5:20 of the fourth quarter. Storie scored off the faceoff to start the quarter, Jacob Blanchette scored with the Pilgrims on a man advantage and Matt Richard scored after Albion failed to clear the ball from the defensive zone.

Albion had scoring chances down the stretch.

Ryan Lemanski and Alec Palmer took shots for Albion in a 30-second window with less than five minutes to play. Thomas Hernandez and Paul Lewis also left shots wide and Scott Shepard's attempt with the shot clock winding down was stopped by goalkeeper William Platt.

Richard scored the equalizer with 53 seconds left in regulation. He finished the day with two goals and three assists.

Albion had New England playing from behind all afternoon. Lebioda and Jacob Swift scored in the first five minutes of the game, Quinn Dobrzelewski scored off a faceoff win and Brady Lawrence scored as Albion led, 4-2, at the end of the first quarter.

Lawrence scored in the second quarter as Albion led, 5-4, at halftime.

Albion, which earned its fourth consecutive Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament championship to advance to the NCAA Championship field, ends the season with a 10-8 record.
