Lebioda, Lowes gain season's final MIAA Player of the Week awards

Brandon Lebioda and Matt Lowes were named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Players of the Week Monday for their performance in helping Albion College secure the league tournament championship for the fourth year in a row.

Lebioda, a midfielder from Romeo, Mich., was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. He contributed a goal, two assists, four groundballs and caused six turnovers in the semifinal victory over Trine University and dropped three goals (including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter) and an assist on Hope College in the championship game.

A Scotts, Mich., product who prepped at Vicksburg High School, Lowes was named the Defensive Player of the Week as Albion held its MIAA Tournament opponents to eight goals or less. He was credited with causing a pair of turnovers against Hope.

With the MIAA's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, Albion (10-7 overall) is traveling to Rochester, N.Y., for a first round game against New England College on Tuesday. The survivor of the Albion/New England College contest advances to a second round contest against the Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday.
