Hubbell Placed On List Of Scholar All-Americans

Albion College senior midfielder Zach Hubbell continued to add to his haul of awards from the 2017 season Thursday when his name was included on the list of Division III Scholar All-Americans released by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

A Haslett High School product, Hubbell graduated in May with a major in physics and minor in chemistry. In addition to graduating Cum Laude and gaining recognition on the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Academic Honor Roll, he stayed on campus during the summer of 2015 to assist chemistry professor Vanessa McCaffrey and physics professor Nicolle Zellner in their ongoing investigation into the role of impacts on simple organic molecules.

Hubbell is the third Briton to gain Scholar All-America status from the USILA, following Joe Silvestri in 2014 and Dylan Neal in 2016.

Hubbell was previously rewarded for generating a team-high 50 points on 32 goals and 18 assists during the 2017 season by being placed on the USILA's list of honorable mention All-Americans and being selected as the MIAA's Offensive Most Valuable Player as well as the all-MIAA first team.

"We are incredibly proud of Zach," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "He has helped us build an outstanding lacrosse program at Albion, athletically and academically. This is a first for our program - as we have had both field All-Americans and Scholar All-Americans in the past - but Zach is the first in our short history to be named to both All-America teams.

"Anytime we hit a first like this, it causes me to reflect on our program a bit," DeCola added. "I really think there was a group of extremely committed kids a few years ago that put Albion lacrosse on the map, but their work has continued on every year since. Zach could have simply rested on the platform that those guys built, but instead, he is helping us to continually elevate our lacrosse program because of his dedicated work."
