Hubbell Collects Honorable Mention All-America Award

Albion College senior midfielder Zach Hubbell added to his haul of awards from the 2017 season Wednesday when his name was among the list of honorable mention players as the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its Division III All-America team.

A Haslett High School product, Hubbell was the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Most Valuable Player on offense and an all-MIAA first team pick. He produced a team-high 50 points, generating 32 goals and dishing out 18 assists.

Hubbell produced one of the signature moments of the season April 22 when he scored a goal (his fourth of the day) that pulled Albion into a tie with MIAA rival Trine University with 18 seconds left in regulation. The Britons went on to win the game, 12-11.

Hubbell tacked on at least two goals in nine games during the 2017 season, including six in a non-league victory over Otterbein University in March.

Hubbell finished his career ranked third on Albion's all-time lists with 174 points and 124 goals.

"Zach is a great kid, and making the All-America team is awesome," Albion Head Coach Jake DeCola said. "It is like putting the icing on a great career. Zach put a ton of work into our lacrosse program over the last four years, and he is really deserving of this honor. In the end, he really had the ability to dominate his matchups, and score at will. He will be remembered as one of the toughest players to stop that we have had. Off the field he served the team for two years as a captain, and was an outstanding student as well. We are very proud of him and everything he has done for Albion."
