Britons Fall In Season Debut
PONTIAC, Mich. – Albion College took too many shots from 15 yards away from the goal and directed the attempts at places where the goalkeeper could make the save as the Britons opened the men's lacrosse season with a 9-6 loss to Carthage (Wis.) College inside the Ultimate Soccer Complex.
"We took a lot of 16-yard shots we don't want to be taking," Albion Coach Jake DeCola said. "Many of our shots were just as good as a turnover.
Carthage forced Albion to play from behind all day at it scored twice in the first five minutes of the contest. Jared Ferrell scored 2:10 into the contest and he later assisted on Danny Morse's tally.
Albion would come back to trail by a goal five times during the contest, but it could never score the equalizer. Dylan Neal scored his third goal of the contest to cut the Carthage lead to 6-5 with 7 ½ minutes left in the contest. Evan Backal deflated any momentum the Britons had when he produced a shorthanded goal 56 seconds later. Ferrell tacked on another goal to extend the Carthage lead to 8-5 with 4 ½ minutes left.
Albion continues non-league action Saturday when it meets Kenyon (Ohio) College at Detroit Country Day.
