Men's Golf finishes sixth in MIAA jamboree

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Jack Welke hot the hot hand for the Albion College men's golf team on Monday.

The sophomore from Marshall, Mich., achieved a career-best 76 at the Watermark Country Club helping the Britons to a sixth-place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association jamboree.

Soti Michalos scored in the 70s for the second time in four MIAA jamborees, finishing with a round of 78.

Justin Kapke, an all-MIAA first team performer last season, remained in contention for another all-league award. He scored 79 on Monday to move his average to 75.5, good for 13th in the league.

After four jamborees, Albion is fifth in the MIAA. The Britons trail fourth place Kalamazoo by 23 strokes. The top four teams at the end of the fall move on to spring rounds to determine the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship.
