Moving day for Albion men's golf

MARSHALL, Mich. – The third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's golf jamboree of the season turned into moving day for Albion College.

The Britons moved within two strokes of Kalamazoo College in the race for fourth place in the overall standings after achieving a 320 total at The Medalist Golf Club on Thursday.

Justin Kapke, an all-MIAA first team performer last season, tied for fourth place among all players with a 3-over par 75.

However, it was Dillon French, a senior from Howell, Mich., who saved the day for the Britons. Playing as a member of the scoring lineup for the first time this season, French contributed a 9-over 81.

French has been consistent all season, scoring between 80-86 in eight rounds this fall, but his Thursday score was his second-lowest of the season.

Patrick Kelly (81) and Soti Michalos (83) also contributed to Albion's team score.

The individuals Albion entered – Sam Hibbs and Jack Welke – also turned in low scores. Hibbs, a first-year player who prepped at Northwest High School in Jackson, shot a 7-over 79. Welke, a sophomore from Marshall, Mich., shot an 8-over 80.

Calvin will host the fourth MIAA round of the season on Oct. 1 at the Watermark Country Club.
