With Win, Albion Sets Sights on MIAA Title

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - It didn't take long for Albion to get back to its winning ways. After an 8-0 run to start the game, the Britons cruise to their 10th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association victory of the season over Kalamazoo 96-70.

After their first MIAA loss of the season last Saturday, the Britons showed no doubt in their first game back. Kalamazoo slowly started to crawl back and took a 15-11 lead with 11:11 left in the first half. That was seen to be Kalmazoo's last lead as Albion went on a 24-3 tear. It was a team effort during this run with eight Britons contributing points to the effort. MJ Barnes led Albion with 25. This was familiar territory for Barnes, who had a similar performance scoring 26 earlier this season against Kalamazoo.

It was a clean game for the Britons, only allowing six turnovers in tonight's effort, which is their least allowed in an MIAA contest this season. 40 points in the paint, 23 second-chance points, and 40 rebounds were where Albion dominated tonight. Caden Ebeling and Quinton Armstrong led the charge with nine and seven rebounds, respectively.

Five Britons scored in double-figures tonight, which included MJ Barnes (25), Josh Palo (15), Jamezell Davis, Jr. (15), Quinton Armstrong (12), and Caden Ebeling (12). Davis Jr. and Juwan Perry added six and five assists, respectively.

The Britons improve to 10-1 in the MIAA and will be on the road Saturday for a 3:00 PM contest against Adrian. With a Trine loss tonight, Albion moves to a three-game lead in the league with three games remaining in the regular season. A win on Saturday against Adrian would clinch Albion's first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season title since their 2004-2005 season.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
