Britons bounced in OT at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. – Jamezell Davis, Jr. buried a 3-point basket to force overtime, but Albion College made 1-of-10 shots in the extra five minutes as it slipped, 68-61, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball game at Trine University.

The loss snaps Albion's (16-7 overall, 9-3 MIAA) winning streak and drops it into a tie with Trine for the MIAA lead as the teams head into the final week of the regular season. Albion finishes with a Wednesday road game at Calvin College and a home game against Hope College next Saturday.

"It was a good college basketball game with two good teams playing," Albion Head Coach Jody May said. "We had some shots (in the second half and overtime) that didn't go down. It's hard to win when we shoot like that, but it wasn't for lack of effort."

Albion led 35-26 when ArShawn Parker buried a 3-point shot on Albion's first possession of the second half.

The Britons went on a long scoring drought as Trine ripped off a 23-4 run over 10 ½ minutes. Pete Smith knocked down a pair of 3-point shots and Myles Copeland scored eight points during the run.

Albion rallied to tie the score at 51 on a 3-point basket by MJ Barnes with five minutes left. Another 3-point basket by Barnes pushed the Britons to a 54-53 lead as neither team led by more than two down the stretch.

Copeland scored on Trine's opening possession of overtime but neither team scored until there was a minute and a half left. Ellis Cummings scored an old-fashioned three-point play with 1:24 left to extend Trine's lead to 63-58.

Caden Ebeling finished with 14 points, eight rebounds two assists and a block for Albion. Barnes and Davis added 11 points apiece. Davis also dished out five assists and collected two steals.

Trine's Smith led all players with 23 points.
