Davis lifts Britons to men's basketball victory

RICHMOND, Ind. – Jamezell Davis, Jr. scored 16 of Albion's final 17 points, including a 3-point basket with 30 seconds left, to lift the Britons to a 66-63 victory over Earlham College in non-league men's basketball action on Sunday.

The victory gives Albion (1-1) a split of its opening weekend games. The Britons will play their next three at home, starting with a Friday night date with Capital University. The Albion-Capital game follows a 6 p.m. contest between Trine University and Kenyon College.

The Britons led by as many as 11 in the first half and by a 47-39 margin with 12 minutes remaining in the second half.

Thomas Sanborn hit a pair of 3-point baskets, Tarig Eldosougi scored an old fashioned 3-point play and Jamel Barnes scored a layup as Earlham surged to a 50-47 lead at the midpoint of the second half.

Caden Ebeling's second basket of the second half snapped the Albion drought, and Davis took over from there.

Davis, who matched his career-high with 18 points, hit all three of his shots from 3-point range in the final four minutes of the game.

Earlham had two possessions to tie the score in the final 30 seconds, but one resulted in a turnover and Sanborn misfired from 3-point range on the other.

Ebeling finished with 17 points and six rebounds for the Britons.
