Late scoring drought sinks Britons

ALBION, Mich. – Trine University took advantage of an Albion College scoring drought to escape Kresge Gymnasium with a 76-72 victory in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's basketball action.

The Britons led 72-64 on Ryan Lowe's basket with 2:57 left.

The Britons misfired on five shots from the field and two free throws down the stretch.

Meanwhile, Pete Smith buried a 3-point basket to pull Trine within one with 1:44 left and the Thunder hit all nine of their shots from the free throw line.

The game was tightly contested throughout with 12 lead changes and the score was tied nine times.

Arshawn Parker (13), Quinton Armstrong (12) and Jaylin Fordham and Lowe (10 each) all scored in double figures off the bench for Albion. Quay Burks led the starting unit with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Trine's Myles Copeland led all players with 37 points.

Albion will recognize seniors Adam Davis, Robert Ryan and Corey Wheeler Wednesday night prior to its 7:30 home tip against Calvin College.
