ALBION, Mich. – Albion College was unable to free up a man for an open shot in the first half, and the results were predictable.
The Britons shot 29 percent from the field in falling behind by 20 at halftime, and the University of Mount Union coasted to an 86-62 victory in the non-league men's basketball game at Kresge Gymnasium.
Frontcourt mates Quinton Armstrong and Ryan Lowe combined to shoot 10 of 15 for Albion, but the rest of the team was 12 of 45 or 27 percent.
Armstrong, a first-year forward who prepped at Holt High School, had the best game of his young Albion career with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Lowe produced all of his points and rebounds – six and five, respectively – in the second half.
Mount Union shot 50 percent in each half and finished the day 33 of 66 from the field. JJ Kukura, who was 6 of 9 from 3-point range, led all players with 25 points. Andrew Francesconi chipped in with 15.
Kukura knocked down a 3-point basket to ignite Mount Union's 18-4 run as the Purple Raiders opened a 14-point gap, 23-9, midway through the first half.
Albion, 1-3 overall, has another home game next Saturday. Illinois Tech will provide the opposition for the 3 o'clock tip inside Kresge Gymnasium.
