Men's Basketball Slips On Opening Night

GAMBIER, Ohio – Albion College started 1 of 15 from the field in falling behind by double figures Friday night.

Trailing 20-3 12 minutes into the game, the Britons were unable to mount a comeback in a 61-42 loss to Kenyon College.

Bennett Grigull produced 11 points and Ben Stren added six to spark Kenyon's early run.

Corey Wheeler hit a pair of shots as Albion drew within eight, 25-17, late in the first half.

Quay Burks dialed up a 3-point basket and Nathan Kellum tacked on a layup as Albion stayed within striking distance, 43-35, with nine minutes left in regulation.

Ryan O'Neil hit 3-point baskets on consecutive possessions as Kenyon maintained a double digit lead down the stretch.

Wheeler was the only Briton to score in double figures, finishing with 13. He also pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Grigull led all players with 21 points, and he fell a rebound shy of a double-double.

Albion returns to the court at 2 p.m. tomorrow when it challenges Ohio Wesleyan University.
