Albion Football Falls To Trine

ALBION, Mich. – Lamar Carswell averaged nearly 20 ½ yards per carry and he scored on runs of 33, 5 and 72 yards to power Trine University to a 56-21 victory over Albion College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football action at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.

The Thunder scored the first touchdown of the day – a 20-yard scramble by quarterback Evan Wyse – a play after Me'Leick Miles forced and recovered a fumble by Briton quarterback Kyle Thomas.

Carswell finished Trine's second possession – a three-play drive – with his first TD run.

Albion responded by scoring on its third possession of the day. Thomas hooked up with Brian Blanzy for 10 yards and Marlon Martin for 19 to advance the ball to the Trine 30-yard line. Thomas found Sean Koski for the 17-yard score as Albion trailed 14-7 with 7:45 left in the first quarter.

Wyse found Jeffery Barnett for a 9-yard score in the final minute of the first quarter, and Wyse and Barnett hooked up for a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter as Trine held a 49-7 lead at halftime.

Albion celebrated a defensive touchdown early in the third quarter as Joe Fullerton returned a fumble 34 yards for a score.

Collin Poore completed Albion's scoring by hauling in a 10-yard pass from Sam Blanzy in the fourth quarter.

Albion rolled up 417 yards of offense. Sam Blanzy threw for 180 yards and Thomas added 134 yards through the air. Koski finished with 125 receiving yards.

Linebacker Jose Rodriguez led the Briton defense with nine tackles.

Albion hits the road next Saturday for a 1 o'clock MIAA game at Olivet College.
