Big Win For Hunt Seat Team

Big Win For Hunt Seat Team

The Briton hunt seat team came back strong from winter break, riding away as the champion high point team with their first competition weekend of 2016. Leading the pack was sophomore Megan Reilly who was awarded first place in both of her novice flat classes on Jan. 23 and 24, which also qualified her for the regional championships.

On Saturday, in addition to Reilly's win, Emily Galka and Sadie Wayman both placed first in their novice over fences classes, and Emma Wood won first in walk-trot. Reilly also placed second in novice over fences, and Cayla Dupuis and Felicia Soto both won second in their intermediate flat classes. Megan Bertels followed with a second place in walk-trot-canter. With all of these points and more, the Albion team came in third place, but only one point away from the top two teams that had tied.

While the competition remained strong on Sunday, the Brits came out on the winning end the second day with the High Point team award. Another first place was won by Madeline Beattie in novice flat, showing for the first time this school year after being off campus fall semester. Bertels, Reilly and Wood all won first places as well, joined by Megan Brown who won walk-trot-canter. Second place finishers included Wayman, Sienna Mendina, Marjori Boldt, Megan Morrill, and Melanie Fodera.

Three more Albion riders were added to the list of qualified riders for regional championships:  Cayla Dupuis in intermediate flat, Megan Bertels in walk-trot-canter, and Megan Reilly in novice flat.

The final regular season show will be on Feb. 13 hosted by Grand Valley State University in Ada, Mich.
