Winkler Secures Spot at Regionals with First Place Ride

Sophomore Megan Winkler captured first place in the walk-trot division over the weekend, which officially secures her spot at Intercollegiate Horse Show Assocation Regional hunt seat championships later in the year. The Nov. 14-15 doubleheader show, hosted by Michigan State University, was held at Willowbrooke Farm in Plymouth, Mich.

The first day of showing was highlighted by Winkler's win, and also first place finishes by Felicia Soto in intermediate flat and Megan Reilly in novice over fences. Sadie Wayman took first in novice flat and second in novice over fences. First year Shannon Parker won second in novice flat, and junior Sienna Mendina took second in open over fences. The day concluded with the Albion team in fourth place out of the 13 total teams.

With more ribbons to be had on Sunday, the Britons put their claim on a good amount. Megan Bertels took first place in walk-trot-canter, and Cayla Dupuis won first place in intermediate on the flat and third place over fences. Marjori Boldt and Emma Wood took third place in novice flat and walk-trot, respectively. At the end of the day, the team finished in third place.

The Briton hunt seat team has a break in their competition schedule until Jan. 23 and 24 when they head back to Willowbrooke for a show hosted by the University of Michigan.
