Riders Reflect On Season's First Show

Albion started the 2015-2016 equestrian hunt seat season with an Oct. 3-4 doubleheader show co-hosted by Grand Valley State University and Saginaw Valley State University. The competition was held at Woodbine Farm in Chelsea, Mich. Not only did the entire varsity team travel to compete, but they also took along four Albion school horses.

The first day proved to be successful with many first place finishes for the Briton riders. Sadie Wayman won her novice flat class, Megan Bertels her advanced walk/trot/canter class, and Megan Winkler her walk/trot class. Second place finishers included Sienna Mendina (open over fences), Megan Reilly (novice over fences), and Felicia Soto (intermediate flat). Emily Galka (novice flat) and Megan Brown (beginner walk/trot/canter) both took home third place ribbons. As the first day of competition drew to an end, the Albion team had captured third place in the overall point standings.

The Britons came back early for the second day of riding. Cayla Dupuis rode away with the win in her intermediate flat class. Second places were awarded to team captain Claire Tillman (open flat), senior Jackson Regen (both open flat and over fences), Galka (intermediate flat), Reilly (novice flat), Marjori Boldt (novice flat), and Bertels (advanced walk/trot/canter). Mendina and Soto both won third places in open over fences and intermediate flat, respectively.

After the first show, Albion sits in third place in the region overall. They hope to climb the ladder to contend for the top honors with the upcoming competitions.
