Florida trip ends with tough loss to Ohio Northern

The Albion baseball team closed out an otherwise successful spring trip in Florida with a gut-wrenching 2-1 ninth inning loss to Ohio Northern University Saturday morning n Auburndale, Fla.

The Britons, who saw their five-game season-opening win streak end Friday afternoon with a loss to UMass-Dartmouth, seemed on the verge of winning an old-fashioned pitching duel Saturday over the Polar Bears.

It was a scoreless tie heading into the ninth inning when senior Jordyn Finney doubled and scored on junior Andrew Arszulowicz's RBI double, giving Albion a 1-0 lead.

But in the bottom of the ninth, an Albion error and a hit batter put two runners on base and, with two outs, Chayten Overholt delivered the two-run game-winning hit.

Freshman Rudy Ochoa pitched superbly for the Britons, allowing just six hits, walking two and striking out 11, but couldn't close the deal.

Albion finished with six hits as well, two from Finney.

"I was happy with the trip and the way we played overall," coach Scott Carden said.

In the first five games, Albion rung up 60 runs and came back in the late innings to win three of them.

The Britons return to action Wednesday when they play a doubleheader at Anderson University (Ind).
