Britons drop one-run game at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Sean Haddlesey collected three hits, including a double and a RBI as Albion College took a 4-3 loss to Bluffton University in non-league baseball action on Tuesday.

The first-year left fielder from Ann Arbor, Mich., is hitting a team-best .353 through nine games for the Britons (4-5).

Bluffton scored on a pair of two-run doubles. Jeff Strayer slugged his two-base hit in the fourth and Alex Lemanski provided the insurance runs in the eighth.

Haddlesey hit his RBI single with two out in the fifth. Drew Olszewski reached on a fielder's choice, advanced to second on Riley Stesiak's single and hustled to the plate on Haddlesey's hit.

Albion had plenty of chances to score throughout the game:

  • Jordyn Finney tripled with two out in the first
  • Haddlesey singled and Finney walked to start the fourth inning. Haddlesley advanced to third when Kellan Huang flied out to center field for the second out.
  • Olszewski was stranded at second in the seventh
  • Haddlesey hit a double to leadoff the eighth. He advanced to third with two out

Mitch Shedlowsky started on the mound and threw two shutout innings.

Drew Weaver threw three scoreless innings, setting the Bluffton side down in order twice. He worked around a pair of errors in the sixth inning by getting a strikeout and a pop fly to the shortstop.

Albion is scheduled to play its home opener at 4 p.m. Wednesday against Defiance College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
