Britons gain split of senior day games

ALBION, Mich. – Andrew Arszulowicz produced a pinch-hit double to score Drew Olszewski with the winning run as Albion College walked off with a 4-3 victory over Trine University in the first game of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader played at Champions Stadium at Frank Joranko Field.

Albion settled for a split of the Friday games as Trine came back for a 8-4 victory in game two.

Game One

Jack Wyman started for Albion on the mound and he helped his cause with a two-run homerun (his fifth of the season) with two out in the sixth.

As he did much of the game, Wyman limited the damage in the seventh. Cale Hall hit a leadoff single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved over to third on Jacob Heller's bunt single. The next batter, Kevin O'Malley, grounded into a double play, but Hall scored on the play as Trine gained a 3-2 lead.

Albion responded in its half of the seventh. Matt Bur clubbed his first homerun at the collegiate level to tie the score and Olszewski followed with a single to set up Arszulowicz's game-winning hit.

Wyman, a senior from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., who was likely making his final collegiate start on the mound, improved to 2-7 with the win. He worked around 11 hits and three walks while striking out six.

Game Two

Trine scored three times in the first and second innings to take a 6-1 lead after two innings and it never looked back.

Tristan Ellis pitched effectively in relief, throwing four scoreless innings to give Albion a chance to rally.

Albion squandered an opportunity to close the deficit in the fifth. Trailing 7-3, Albion had runners on second and third with two out but failed to score as Trine pitcher Ben Wheaton wiggled out of the jam by getting James Spilko to ground out.

Riley Stesiak hit a double and a triple for Albion, Wyman hit a single and a double and Jordyn Finney hit a single and a triple. Kellan Huang drove in two runs.

On Deck

Albion (9-29 overall, 7-19 MIAA) will complete the season when the teams complete the four-game MIAA series with a Sunday doubleheader in Angola, Ind. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
