Baseball Britons fall to Hope at home

ALBION, Mich. – Matt Bur and James Spilko had four hits and two runs batted in each and Kellan Huang had three hits and four RBI on Friday as Albion College lost both ends of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball doubleheader to Hope College by scores of 8-6 and 8-7.

Game One

Bur hit a RBI single and Jordyn Finney and Huang lifted sacrifice flies as Albion forged a 3-3 tie in the third.

Hope added two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh in build an 8-3 lead.

Albion rallied for three in the seventh, with the big blast coming from Andrew Arszulowicz pinch-hit homerun.

Hope summoned CJ Otteman from the bullpen to get the final two outs for his fourth save of the season.

Game Two

Albion led 6-0 after two innings. Huang hit a two-run single in the first and Spilko, Luke Bottomley, Drew Olszewski and Bur also had RBI hits.

Hope chipped away at the deficit, scoring two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth. Mason Opple drove in the game-winning run with a single.

On Deck

After taking a break for final examinations, Albion (8-26 overall, 6-16 against MIAA rivals) will face Trine University for its final four games of the season. The series starts with a home doubleheader Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m.
