Pitchers carry Albion to split of baseball doubleheader

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Playing its third doubleheader in as many days on Monday, Albion College handed the ball to James Spilko and Kellan Huang to eat up some innings.

Spilko and Huang made their first starts of the season on the mound, but they delivered for the Britons.

Spilko pitched all six innings in game one, but the only offensive support he received came in the form of two hits by Riley Stesiak, as the Britons absorbed a 2-0 loss.

Huang scattered two runs over five innings in game two, but he drove in two runs with a single in the ninth and Jack Wyman pitched four shutout innings as Albion bounced back with a 6-2 victory.

Albion trailed 2-0 in game two as Kalamazoo scored runs in the second and fourth.

The Britons scored twice in the sixth – Wyman clubbed an RBI double and Spilko drove in a run on a groundout – to tie the score.

Drew Olszewski drove in the winning run in the seventh when he doubled to right-center, scoring Matt Bur.

Albion added insurance runs in the ninth on Huang's single and Stesiak later scored on a throwing error.

Albion (8-24 overall and 6-14 against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals) gets two days off before opening its next series with a 2 p.m. Thursday doubleheader at Hope College.
