Baseball gains split of Monday twinbill

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College salvaged a game in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series with Alma College, taking a 13-5 decision in the nightcap of the Monday games played at Champions Stadium.

Andrew Fabry (2-1) gave the Britons a lift by throwing 6.2 scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just two hits, a third inning single to Ben Finzel and an eighth inning single to Matt Minaudo. Fabry matched his season-high with seven strikeouts.

Albion scored five times in the first – Andrew Arszulowicz and Cameron Doornweerd hit two-run singles and Colton Rydleski chipped in with a RBI single – but starting pitcher Jon Hubanks couldn't get a shutdown inning in the second. Alma scored four times in the second to forge a tie at 5-5.

Arszulowicz crushed a triple to center field, scoring Jack Wyman, and he scored on Jordyn Finney's single as Albion regained the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the second.

Riley Stesiak scored on a passed ball in the third and he slugged his fourth homerun of the season in the fifth.

Doornweerd completed Albion's scoring with a two-run double in the eighth.

Alma defeated Albion, 7-0, in game one to win three of the four games in the series.

Stesiak hit .385 (5-for-13) with a double, triple and homerun in the four-game series.

On Deck

Albion (6-14 overall, 4-4 MIAA) is scheduled to travel to Grand Rapids on Friday to begin a four-game MIAA series with Calvin College.
