Albion baseball takes three of four from Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. – Albion College split a Sunday doubleheader at Olivet College to win the series by taking three of the four games from its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival.

It was an especially good day for center fielder Riley Stesiak. The sophomore from South Bend, Ind., hit .667 (6-for-9) with a homerun and two runs batted in.

Not to be outdone, designated hitter Jack Wyman and catcher Jordyn Finney both hit .500. Wyman slugged two homeruns and drove in seven runs. Finney's power numbers included a double and a homerun.

Game One: Albion 10, Olivet 0

Mitch Shedlowsky scattered three hits and two walks. It was his first complete game and shutout of the season. It was his second career shutout.

Shedlowski received all the run support he would need when Wyman homered to left field in the first.

Albion went deep twice in the fourth. Andrew Arszulowicz drove a three-run blast over the fence in right center and Wyman added a grand slam.

Stesiak completed the power surge with a homerun in the seventh.

Game Two: Olivet 6, Albion 5

A see-saw game was decided when Aaron Gillespie scored an unearned run in the eighth to give Olivet the winning margin.

Albion scored twice in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Joe Turnbull crossed the plate on a throwing error by the Comets right fielder and Wyman tacked on a RBI single to send Stesiak home.

Albion forged a 3-3 tie in the fourth on Finney's two-run homer.
